- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon green onions, chopped for garnish
- 1 head butter or iceberg lettuce about 12 leaves
- optional toppings shredded carrots, chopped peanuts, or sesame seeds
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet, cooking for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and sugar. Pour this mixture over the cooked beef and vegetables. Stir well to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Remove the skillet from the heat. To serve, spoon the beef mixture into individual lettuce leaves. Top with chopped green onions and any optional toppings if desired.
Wrap the lettuce around the filling and enjoy!
You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option. Serve with rice or noodles to make it a more substantial meal. Feel free to add more vegetables to the filling, such as shredded carrots or mushrooms for extra nutrition and flavor.
