Equipment

  • 1 large saucepan
  • 1 popcorn maker or stovetop pot
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cups
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper
  • 1 microwave-safe bowl
  • 1 rubber spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 cup popping corn kernels
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3-4 drops pink food coloring Feel free to adjust the food coloring to create different shades.
  • ¼ cup cotton candy Store-bought or homemade; add just before serving for best texture.

Instructions

  • Pop the popcorn using a popcorn maker or stovetop method. If using stovetop, heat a large saucepan over medium heat with a tablespoon of oil. Add the kernels and cover. Shake occasionally until popping slows. Transfer to a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar, butter, and salt. Stir constantly until it begins to boil. Allow the mixture to boil for 1-2 minutes without stirring.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in the baking soda, vanilla extract, and pink food coloring until well combined.
  • Pour the sugar mixture over the popped popcorn and quickly toss to coat evenly using a rubber spatula.
  • Spread the coated popcorn onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Allow it to cool slightly for about 5 minutes.
  • Once the popcorn is cool but still slightly sticky, break it into clusters and gently incorporate the cotton candy into the popcorn mixture.
  • Allow the popcorn to cool completely before serving. Store in an airtight container for freshness.

Notes

Feel free to adjust the food coloring to create different shades.
You can add sprinkles or other fun toppings for extra festive flair.
The cotton candy may dissolve slightly if mixed in too early, so add it just before serving for the best texture.
