1 Large pot
1 Skillet
1 Colander
1 Wooden spoon
1 Measuring cups
1 Measuring spoons
- 8 ounces penne pasta
- 12 ounces smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta.
In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Add the grated Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning, stirring until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
Combine the cooked penne pasta with the sauce and sausage mixture. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add some reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well to ensure the pasta is coated with the creamy sauce.
Serve immediately, garnished with chopped parsley.
For extra flavor, consider adding vegetables such as bell peppers or spinach to the dish. If you prefer a bit of heat, add crushed red pepper flakes to the sausage while cooking. This dish can be made ahead and reheated; just be sure to add a splash of cream or pasta water when reheating to keep it creamy.
