  • 1 measuring cups
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 bun warmer or baking sheet (optional)

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • optional sliced pickles or cheese for topping

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain excess grease.
  • Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
  • Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until everything is combined.
  • Let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and flavors meld.
  • While the mixture simmers, you can toast the hamburger buns if desired.
  • Serve the sloppy joe mixture on the toasted buns. Add sliced pickles or cheese if you like.

Notes

Feel free to adjust the spices according to your taste preferences.
For a healthier option, you could substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef.
These sloppy joes can be made ahead of time and reheated for an easier meal prep option.
