Equipment

  • 1 oven
  • 1 9x13 inch baking dish
  • 1 skillet
  • 1 mixing spoon
  • 1 set measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (8 biscuits)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the diced onion until the beef is cooked through and the onion is soft, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Drain any excess fat from the skillet, then add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • In your 9x13 inch baking dish, spread the sloppy joe mixture evenly across the bottom.
  • Open the can of biscuits and cut each biscuit into quarters. Arrange the biscuit pieces over the sloppy joe layer, covering it as evenly as possible.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the biscuit pieces.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for ground beef for a leaner option.
Feel free to add chopped bell peppers or mushrooms to the beef mixture for extra vegetables.
This dish can be made ahead of time and refrigerated before baking; just increase the baking time if starting from cold.
